We could not be in America and not go to Sin City 'VEGAS'!
Only a 4h30 drive from LA through the dessert, we decided to spend a night in Vegas and enjoy the all American road trip.
All along the road we can see only rocks, sand and lots of absolutely nothing.
There is a small town where we stop and eat the famous In N Out burgers, mac donalds, etc... but nothing else. In N Out lives up to its reputation and is the best fast food we have tried in the US so far,( but Jonny Rockets is the best all round burger dinner.)
As soon as we left California state and arrive in Nevada we can see casinos everywhere.
The countryside is crazy: the desert and in 3s the big city with buildings everywhere, mainly hotels,r esorts and casino's. Even the petrol station is stuffed with slot machines a beer fridge some tabaco products, they also sell fuel!
Andrea is so lovely , she made a reservation for us in the georgous hotel " Cosmopolitain" on the main strip of Vegas.
When we arrive in the hotel it's amazing, the room is bigger than any of the flats were we have ever lived. There is a walk in wardrobe balcony, small kitchen. As with everything in America it is so big so many gadgets and everything is comfort orientated. Touch control pannels control the whole room, TV, room service everything!
Digby spots the bath with water jets and takes his first bath since being in Japan in December 8 months ago!
We get dressedwalk the shoping boulevard Digby tries on a suit jacket for fun the first one he has worn in a year, then spots the $1600 price tag and decides to politly leave the shop ASAP.
We have a delicious dinner and some cocktails to get us in the gambeling mood. As they enter the casino as we are staying in the hotel we are give silver membership cards (no idea what these do but we flash them every time we sit down at a table hoping to recieve special treatment)
We start out on the slots, and order some beers, we are suprised when we get the beer, all drinks are free as long as you are gambeling! Its all free we ask? "yes as long asyou playing" stuff the slots we head straight for the black jack table finish our beers. Sophie switches to Champagne the rest of the night and Digby has grey goose and cranberry.
Sophie get 10 black jacks in an hour, we are about 160$ ahead! We go to play roulette but they ask for Sophie's ID she leaves a $100 chip in the room and we play the $60 and with more on Roullette we leave with $300,- then we go to play balck jack again but a much higher table and loose everything in 10 min. We buy more chips and play again and lose another $200 in 10 min. we are now behind and losing we keep losing until we have lost $500,- in all. Its 1am and we feel done, Digby convinces Sophie to withdraw a last $100 and he sits at the roullete table within 30min we have almost $900,- sitting infront of us. We are still drinking the free drinks like fish. Having turned $100 into almost $900 we get over confident make a few big bets and lose down to $200 sophie wants to stop before we lose it all, she gets up and leaves the table Digby makes two bets and leaves the table at 4am with $600,- we are exactly square, nothing gained nothing lost, absolutly knackered.
We cash all our chips and go to sleep. The next morning we remeber we have a $100 chip left, so we check out of the hotel walk into the casion one bet on the 2nd 3rd set on roulet and 30 seconds later we leave with $300 and big smiles. We walk around Las Vegas and treat ourselves to breakfast with the winnings. Explore town and head back to the car and startour drive back the LA. Its been areall blast. As we leave Las Vegas and Nevada we sing and laugh that we have left with more than we came. (if you actually deduct the meal the night before, fuel and breakfast, we only made $24 but thats $24 more than any one else we know that's been there! so we were happy)
We eat a snakc of deep fried crickets on the way home, back to California, we really have fallen in love with Californian life. LAs Vegas was a blast but 2 days or 2 nights is about as long as we could stand it. We enjoyed the casino but we saw plenty of drunk people losing 1000's by the minute!
