Lake Titicaca - Bolivia

Lake Titikaka on the border with Peru and Bolivia at 4000m + it provides some amazing views and landf scapes.

We hop on a boat from Copacabana to Isla Del Sol the Inca´s believed this waas the birthplace of the sun.Local families ask us to take there picture. Every one likes to eat ice cream and jelly? Even though its really cold, we feel more like hot chocolate! After a 2,5 hour boat ride on the lake we get to the Island. Climbing up the Inca straircase gasping for breath (altitude + steep steps + heavy bag). We finally find our hostal, on the highest point of the Island after a 30 min climb.
The Island is raw and sparsly populated, covered in Inca terraces for farming. Donkey seems to be the main mode of transport on the Island to move anything heavy or any farm related activeties. The donkeys know the way so well they are loaded and sent of walking by them selves as they know exactly where to go.
At night it is bitterly cold and we drink a bottle of wine to heat up and go to bed early huddeling for heat. (there is no heating in these hostals). The next morning we decide to skip the cold shower, have breakfast and head out. We walk through small coca plantations over hills, see the ruins of the sun temple, churches and enjoy the small town. Here we are at over 4000m walking on a sunny Island on a shimmering lake surounded by snow caped mountains it has a fairy-tale feel to the place. As the sun rises it goes from bitterly cold to warm to scorching, we both get sun burnt. While waiting fro the boat back to the mainland lots of kids hassle us to buy things from them. Digby puts a deck of cards to good use a few magic tricks and card games and they are all facinated, and no longer want to hassle tourists to buy souvenirs.

Now on an over night bus and of to Cusco Peru!
