Countryside - Tibet

TIBET!!!
On the roof of the world, every day here you are treated to blockbuster opening credit moutain views. It truly is spectacular. The small villages, monastaries, stupa's, herders and Tibetan peoples culture and beliefs shine through so clearly. It is easy to get a true sence of the traditional way of life here, from the typical dress of the women and the herding men riding small horses, to the dicipline with which monks and nuns reciting prayers, burining insence and aroom think with the smoke from Yak butter candles. This is Tibet.
Tibet is also covered in check points CCTV camera's and Chinese soldiers. On the one hand there presence cannot be missed, it is clear there is something special about getting in and out of Tibet, as our passports are not stamped and there is no visa in our passport. Only a stamped piece of paper that is taken away from us when we leave China. But on the other hand all the signs are still in Tibetan and Chinese, many religious practices and traditional ways are allowed etc. So on the one hand it feels like it is controlled with and iorn fist and other times like the culture is tolerated and the people are living in a balance dare I say harmony with each other. But the feeling changes from one moment to the next. Lhasa on the other hand is a different feeling all together.
Non the less the warm welcome and smile you recieve from every Tibetan, the amazing natural scenery you see traveling acrossthe palteau above 4000m makes this one of the most impresionalble and magical places we have ever visited. There will alwasy be a special feeling in our hearts when we think of Tibet.
